It’s a Small World After All – A Bit of History…

ITS A SMALL WORLD AFTER ALL!  One of our purchasers of the rescued Jeparit Ponies was talking to a lady and she can remember the horses from 30 years ago.  If she is right, they are not all line breed as Welshies and others.

“I think Australian ponies were added to the mob and the guy was in trouble back then for them being to fat.  He was well known for trying to breed black and whites and was always buying different coloured stallions to get the colour.  There was a man in Mortoa who purchased some mares from him 50 odd years ago to breed the black/white.  He talked to my hubby about these ponies 20 years ago and said the guy had 15 or more stallion he had purchased from different areas.  We actually purchased one of the mares that he bred as Mortoa Man said she was just too small and she went on to produce many foals for us, one sold for $7000!  That old mare died aged 25.   Also When I lived in Rainbow, there were also quite a lot of pintos who showed up that were from this man’s place and many of good riding horses.  Oh I have even more info.  I just worked some thing out – never realised it was the same ponies.  I knew a man very well who came to Vic 18 years ago.  He purchased truck loads – and I mean truck loads, maybe 100 ponies.  Over half were from a place just past Dimboola in the bush.  He took them back up north and they were registered and used as foundation mares for his stud.  These mares are the basis of many miniature horse and pony studs of today…
